358 Security Fencing is chosen when a site needs serious physical perimeter protection with a tight, “finger-proof” welded mesh that keeps a discreet visual impact on the surrounding environment. It is widely specified where climb resistance, cut resistance, and controlled sightlines matter, and where a fence must look clean while still performing like a true security system. Under the POLYMETAL range, 358 Security Fencing is positioned for projects that demand consistent build quality, reliable supply, and repeatable installation outcomes across long fence runs.
Why 358 Security Fencing Is Specified
358 Security Fencing is commonly selected for high-consequence perimeters because the small aperture reduces grip opportunities and restricts tool access at the fence face. It also helps limit the transfer of objects through the boundary, which is important where the protection of valuable wire, cable, or controlled zones is required. When height, posts, fixings, and finish are correctly matched, the system delivers a clean appearance with very high security performance. If your project also needs durable mesh solutions for animal containment or perimeter separation, you can view welded wire mesh for zoo as a related option.

358 Security Fencing. The Ultimate Solution
Securifor358 is the ultimate welded mesh system offering one of the most effective means of providing a high degree of physical perimeter protection where a discreet visual impact on the immediate environment is essential.
358 Fencing. Construction
The panels are manufactured to form a mesh pattern of 76.2mm x 12.7mm using 4mm diameter vertical and horizontal wires which are resistance welded at each intersection. This method of construction produces a panel that is both formidable in strength and appearance.
A range of square hollow section posts are available to suit the specified fencing which is offered in the heights from 1.20m to 5.20m. The panels are attached to the post by means of a 75mm panel overlap and clamp bar arrangement which is securely fixed to the post by M8 bolts and Permacone nuts. Factory fitted inserts together with stainless steel Permabolts are available as an option.
Variety
The wide variety of heights available in this robust system and its pleasing aesthetic appearance ensures that Securifor 358 is suitable for a wide range of applications.
The system’s ability to provide a single panel up to 5.20m in height means that it is widely specified by prison and military establishments, and authorities wishing to protect assets which have a significant strategic importance.
It is also frequently specified at heights up to 3.60m for use in schools, parks, leisure and recreational areas as well as retail and commercial developments.
Securifor 358 provides a pleasing appearance and excellent security.
Security
Securifor 358 security panels are extremely difficult to penetrate, with the small mesh aperture being effectively finger proof, and extremely difficult to attack using conventional hand tools.
It is also very difficult and time consuming to attempt to pass items from the protected area through the fencing, and for this reason alone makes the protection of valuable wire and cable a viable proposition.
Resistance to burrowing and climbing. The bottom of the panel can be supplied extended 300mm in base for burying below the ground.
A concrete sill can also be specified to counter efforts to burrow beneath the fence line. Brackets to support barbed wire or tape provide additional protection to deter the most ambitious climber.

Finish
The welded panels have a Zincalu Super coated which has a combined zinc and aluminium content offering an enhanced lifespan. The posts and clamps are hot dip galvanised.
Panels are usually supplied with a polyester powder coated finish in RAL 6005 (green) or RAL 9005 (black) and other colours are available upon request. Polyester powder coating provides additional protection to the primary Zincalu Super layer and increases the potential life span.
Gates
A full range of gates is available to match the fencing system, and automation and access control packages are available to enhance the functionality of this fine product.
358 Security Fencing: 11 Brutal Traps That Cause Real Loss
358 Security Fencing looks simple on paper, but buyers lose money when small spec gaps turn into weak points, rework, delayed handovers, or avoidable security incidents. These traps are written for decision-makers who want POLYMETAL-level consistency and do not want the fence line to become the project’s liability.
Trap 1: Ordering “358” without locking the aperture to 76.2mm x 12.7mm
358 Security Fencing performance depends on the tight mesh pattern; if the aperture drifts larger, the “finger-proof” advantage fades and the system becomes easier to manipulate at the panel face.
Trap 2: Letting wire diameter drop below 4mm and calling it “equivalent”
358 Security Fencing is specified with 4mm vertical and horizontal wires; reducing diameter weakens resistance at the panel face and can turn a strong-looking fence into a fence that deforms under attack or impact.
Trap 3: Accepting poor welding density instead of resistance welded at each intersection
358 Security Fencing relies on consistent resistance welding at intersections; weak weld quality creates failure points that appear later, when the site is already operational and the cost of replacement is painful.
Trap 4: Choosing the wrong post section for the height and wind exposure
358 Security Fencing is offered from 1.20m to 5.20m, and post selection must scale with height; under-posting creates movement, noise, and “walking” fence lines that trigger complaints and callbacks.
Trap 5: Forgetting the 75mm panel overlap requirement
358 Security Fencing uses a 75mm panel overlap with a clamp bar arrangement; skipping or reducing overlap can create visible gaps and weaken continuity at joins, especially across long straight runs.
Trap 6: Using the wrong fixings and losing clamp integrity over time
358 Security Fencing clamp security depends on correct bolts and locking hardware; poor fasteners loosen, corrosion locks parts, and you end up with either ongoing maintenance or forced replacement.
Trap 7: Under-specifying posts by cutting O/A length and losing embedment strength
358 Security Fencing failures often start when overall post length is shortened to “save cost”; once embedment depth or structural reserve is lost, the fence can move, lean, or compromise the perimeter and you pay twice in remediation.
Trap 8: Skipping anti-burrow design on high-risk sites
358 Security Fencing can be supplied with the bottom of the panel extended 300mm for burying; missing this option where burrowing risk exists creates a predictable weakness at the ground line.
Trap 9: Ignoring concrete sill options where ground conditions demand it
358 Security Fencing can be paired with a concrete sill to counter burrowing; if the site has soft soils or repeated disturbance, skipping the sill can turn the perimeter into an easy target.
Trap 10: Treating barbed wire/tape brackets as “extras” instead of deterrence control
358 Security Fencing deterrence is often strengthened with brackets supporting barbed wire or tape; leaving them out on exposed runs can invite attempts that would otherwise be discouraged.
Trap 11: Choosing finish purely on colour and ignoring coating system life
358 Security Fencing life is driven by the coating stack (Zincalu Super plus powder coat) and hot dip galvanised posts/clamps; selecting finish without matching the environment can accelerate corrosion and destroy appearance fast.
| Component | Finish | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Panels | Zincalu Super coated (combined zinc and aluminium content) | Enhanced lifespan base protection |

| Standard Colour | RAL 9005 (black) | Common modern commercial perimeter colour choice |
| Other Colours | Available upon request | Site branding or visual integration goals |
| Lifecycle Benefit | Powder coating protects the Zincalu Super layer | Increases potential life span |
| Maintenance Outcome | Finish consistency helps reduce early surface failure | Improves long-term presentation |
| System Outcome | Matched finishes support uniform fence lines | Professional perimeter appearance across long runs |
358 Security Fencing Gates and Access Control Integration
358 Security Fencing is strongest when gates are treated as part of the same security intent as the fence line. A full range of gates is available to match the fencing system, and automation and access control packages are available to enhance the functionality of this fine product. Under the POLYMETAL offering, gate planning is treated as a high-risk zone of the perimeter so the site does not end up with a “perfect fence” and a weak entry point. For a broader benchmark on related site fencing build details, you can also review garrison fencing specifications.
