SNS Wire Rope Slope Protection Mesh is specially designed to prevent rocks and debris from falling onto roads, railways and other important infrastructure. It also helps to control various slope-related geological hazards, such as snow slides, slope erosion and flying rocks. In a typical system, the wire mesh for slope protection consists of two layers: the inner layer is gabion mesh or chain link mesh, and the outer layer is stainless steel knotted rope mesh or stainless steel ferrule rope mesh. The mesh is unrolled or draped over the slope and firmly fixed with anchor bolts. In this way, loose rocks and soil are contained and guided to the foot of the slope behind the SNS Wire Rope Slope Protection Mesh instead of falling directly onto the road, which greatly improves the safety of passengers and vehicles.
What Is Rockfall Slope Protection Mesh?
Rockfall Slope Protection Mesh refers to a range of active rockfall protection systems installed and anchored directly onto mountain or slope surfaces. Compared with passive rockfall barrier systems, which are installed beside the road to catch falling rocks, active systems cover the slope surface to prevent stones and soil from detaching and falling. This type of system is widely used for slope protection, mountain protection, vegetation protection and road protection, effectively reducing damage caused by natural disasters such as rockfalls and landslides.
Common types of rockfall protection mesh include:
- Chain link mesh
- Wire rope mesh
- Spider spiral rope mesh
- Hexagonal mesh
Rockfall Debris Flow Network
The rockfall debris flow network is made of 3 mm high-strength steel wire with a tensile strength of at least 1770 N/mm². Thanks to its flexible structure, the debris flow netting adapts perfectly to the terrain and provides excellent energy absorption under concentrated loads. To absorb impact energies from 250 to 8000 KJ, 5 to 19 strands of steel wire are bundled into rings with a diameter of 300 or 350 mm. A secondary fine mesh can be added to block softer rocks and smaller stones, providing multi-level protection.
The main components of the rockfall network typically include:
- Base plates and posts
- Energy-dissipating brakes
- Rope anchorages and anchors
Rockfall netting is suitable for rockfall control, landslides, debris flow protection, shallow landslides
and avalanche mitigation.
Key Advantages of SNS Wire Rope Slope Protection Mesh

Wire Rope Net Solutions for Rock and Slope Stabilization
For rock and slope stabilization projects, SNS Wire Rope Slope Protection Mesh can be combined with different wire rope net solutions to suit specific engineering requirements.
1. Wire Rope Net
Steel wire rope net is one of the most commonly used rockfall barriers, including galvanized wire rope net and PVC-coated wire rope net. The wire ropes intersect and are fixed by clips, providing significantly
higher tensile strength than single steel wires.Wire rope nets can be used alone to block large rocks, or combined with chain link mesh or hexagonal wire mesh to intercept both large and small stones. This combination offers comprehensive protection for slopes in complex environments.
- Material: High carbon steel, stainless steel 304 316 etc.
- Surface treatment: Galvanized or PVC coated.
- Wire rope diameter: 8–20 mm.
- Wire rope mesh size: 20 × 20 – 360 × 360 mm.
- Standard panel size: 4 m × 4 m, 4.5 m × 4.5 m.
- Supporting rope diameter: 12 mm, 16 mm.
- Sewing rope diameter: 8 mm.
| Material | Stainless steel wire mesh, steel rope |
| Feature | Fixed by wire rope bolts and/or support ropes through steel anchors (prestressed) and cable anchor rods, with special anchor plates and edge support where necessary to ensure overall stability. |
| Usage | The system is mainly composed of flexible mesh covering the side slope with potential geological hazards, thereby achieving effective protection and stabilization of the slope surface. |
| Mesh type | Woven |
| Advantage | 1. High flexibility, high protection strength and easy to spread, adapting to almost any slope topography with standardized and systematized installation procedures. 2. Using modular installation methods, the construction period is short and overall construction cost is reduced. |
Galvanized Wire Rope Net Rockfall Barrier
Galvanized wire rope net is one of the most commonly used rockfall barrier systems. It is manufactured from hot-dip galvanized steel wire rope. The intersecting wire ropes are clamped and fixed with special clips, which gives the mesh much higher tensile strength than ordinary steel wire meshes.Galvanized wire rope net can be used on its own or in combination with a chain link fence or hexagonal wire mesh. When it is used alone, it is ideal for high and steep rock faces where the stones are large and the impact energy is very high. When it is combined with a chain link fence or hexagonal wire mesh, it is suitable for loose mountains or slopes with many small stones. In this case, the inner chain link or hexagonal mesh stops the small stones, while the outer galvanized wire rope net absorbs and transfers the main impact load.
Components
- Galvanized wire rope net.
The main component of the steel wire rope rockfall barrier system. It is woven from 8 mm steel wire rope into a diamond-shaped wire rope mesh. The steel wire rope provides high tensile strength and excellent load-bearing capacity. - Chain link fence.
Chain link fence is used together with the galvanized wire rope net to compensate for the limitation of larger openings. It is installed behind or inside the wire rope net to block smaller stones from falling. The chain link mesh is made from hot-dip galvanized steel wire for corrosion and rust resistance. - Wire rope anchor.
Made of steel wire rope, the wire rope anchor fastens the galvanized wire rope net and chain link mesh securely to the rock face. Compared with concrete anchors, wire rope anchors have higher tensile strength and better flexibility. - Supporting rope.
Supporting ropes are placed along the edges and inside the galvanized wire rope net to share the load and distribute the pressure of the system. They are also made from 8 mm steel wire rope, ensuring high load capacity and tensile strength. - Sewing rope.
Sewing ropes connect adjacent wire rope panels and form a continuous protective system on the mountain or slope. Made from 8 mm steel wire rope, sewing ropes provide high loading capacity and prevent stone
leakage at the joints.
