FAQ – Welded Mesh Temporary Dog Fence

Q1: What is a welded mesh temporary dog fence?

A welded mesh temporary dog fence is a modular enclosure made from steel frames and welded wire mesh panels. It creates a safe, contained area for dogs and other small animals without needing a permanent fence or
concrete foundations. It can be used as a dog run, kennel or barrier in your backyard or outdoor space.

Q2: Can this fence be used as a permanent dog kennel?

Yes. Although it is classed as “temporary” because it can be moved and reconfigured, the heavy-duty galvanised and powder-coated steel construction is strong enough for long-term outdoor use. Many owners use welded mesh kennels as their main permanent outdoor dog run.

Q3: Is welded mesh better than chain-link for dog enclosures?

For most dogs, welded mesh is safer and stronger than light chain-link. The welded joints create rigid panels that are harder to bend or chew, and the smaller mesh openings reduce the risk of paws, collars or noses getting caught. It is also cleaner and easier to assemble than loose chain-link.

Q4: Is it suitable for large or strong breeds?

Yes, the enclosure uses a strong steel tube frame and approximately 4 mm mesh wire, making it suitable for most medium and large breeds. For very powerful or anxious dogs, we recommend adding extra latches on the gate and, if needed, roof panels to make the kennel more escape-resistant.

Q5: Can I make the enclosure bigger later?

Yes. Optional extra panels can be purchased and joined to the existing pen. Because the system is modular, you can change the shape and size of the enclosure (square, rectangular, L-shape or attached to a wall or existing fence) as your needs change.

Q6: Does the fence need to be fixed to the ground?

For light use, the pen can stand freely on flat, level ground. For maximum safety, especially with large or active dogs, it is recommended to anchor it using dynabolts on concrete or floor brackets and garden spikes on soil. This helps prevent movement or tipping.

Q7: Is the fence rust-proof and weather resistant?

Yes. The panels are made from galvanised steel and finished with a black powder coat. This combination offers excellent protection against rust and weather, making the fence suitable for long-term outdoor use in most
climates.

Q8: Can I use this fence around a swimming pool or garden?

Yes. The enclosure can be used as a pet railing around swimming pools, ponds, garden beds and veggie patches to keep dogs away from sensitive or restricted areas. Always follow local regulations if you intend to use it
as part of a pool safety barrier.

Q9: Is it safe for other animals like rabbits and chickens?

Yes. The small mesh gap and strong frame make it suitable for rabbits, chickens, guinea pigs and even some larger small animals, as well as dogs and big cats. In applications similar to stainless steel rope mesh, you should always check the mesh spacing against the smallest animal to ensure they cannot squeeze through.

Q10: How easy is it to assemble and move?

The panels bolt together with basic hardware, and the full enclosure can usually be assembled in under 30 minutes using simple hand tools. When not in use, the panels stack flat, making the fence easy to store
or transport. This is ideal for renters, breeders and people who move frequently.

Q11: Can I add a roof or cover to make it escape-proof?

Yes. You can use extra panels as a solid roof or combine the enclosure with a gable roof frame and a UV-resistant waterproof cover (sold separately). This helps prevent dogs from jumping or climbing out and offers additional shade and weather protection.

Q12: What is the difference between this and a portable fabric playpen?

A portable fabric or soft playpen is lightweight and best suited for small, calm dogs indoors or for very short outdoor use. A welded mesh fence, by contrast, is much stronger, more chew-resistant and designed for
serious outdoor containment, making it the better choice for larger, more active or determined dogs.
