Flexible stainless steel cable mesh is the characteristic leading product of Wire Mesh Plant, which has been manufacturing this mesh since 2006. The Plant’s independently developed equipment and skilled techniques ensure high-quality products and reliable service worldwide. Flexible stainless steel cable mesh is made from stainless steel wire rope in material grades SUS304, SUS304L, SUS316 and SUS316L. Two main strand constructions are available, 7×7 and 7×19. Our mesh range is supplied in two main weave series – inter-woven (knotted) and ferrule type. The ferrule series is further divided into aluminium-alloy ferrule mesh and stainless steel ferrule mesh according to ferrule material. Through special surface processes, we can also colour the flexible stainless steel cable mesh to Black, Bronze and other custom colours.

What is flexible stainless steel cable mesh?

Flexible stainless steel cable mesh is a net made from stainless steel wire ropes instead of rigid single wires or solid bars. The cables are usually 7×7 or 7×19 construction and are arranged diagonally to form a stable diamond pattern. Depending on the type, the cables are woven and knotted (inter-woven series) or joined by ferrules (sleeve connectors) at each intersection (ferrule series), creating uniform diamond-shaped openings. Typical materials are AISI 304, 304L, 316 or 316L stainless steel, which provide high tensile strength, excellent corrosion resistance and long life in outdoor environments.

Flexible stainless steel cable mesh is widely used in bridge railings, zoo enclosures, aviaries, stair balustrades, fall-protection nets and facades where designers require both safety and transparency.

Why is it called “flexible”?

It is called flexible because the entire flexible stainless steel cable mesh can bend, curve and deform elastically without breaking while still carrying high loads.

Cable vs. solid wire: The mesh is made from multi-strand wire rope (cable), not stiff single wires. Wire rope can bend easily and repeatedly while maintaining high tensile strength.
Hinged intersections: Knots or ferrules behave like small hinges, allowing each diamond cell to open or close slightly when the mesh is pulled, bent or tensioned.
Adapts to shapes: Flexible stainless steel cable mesh can be rolled up like fabric and then stretched over curved, sloped or twisted structures such as arches, spiral stairs and curved bridges.
Elastic under load: When it is subjected to impact or wind load, the mesh deflects slightly and then springs back, rather than remaining permanently deformed like rigid welded panels.

In other words, flexible stainless steel cable mesh is a high-strength stainless steel net that behaves more like a textile than a rigid panel, which makes it ideal wherever architects and engineers need both safety and free-form, three-dimensional shapes.

Specification of flexible stainless steel cable mesh

Standard flexible stainless steel cable mesh is available with cable diameters from 1.0 mm to 4.0 mm and mesh sizes (diamond aperture) from 20 mm to 160 mm. Besides these normal specifications, we can customise other cable diameters and mesh sizes according to project requirements. Inter-woven flexible stainless steel cable mesh is commonly used for animal cages and bird aviaries, often referred to as zoo mesh. The mesh offers strong tensile strength, high flexibility, excellent transparency and the ability to span large openings. Compared with other mesh products, flexible stainless steel cable mesh has irreplaceable advantages in practicability, security, aesthetic appearance and durability.
